Events

Every year, Abundant Life hosts a number of special events aimed at unifying and celebrating the Prospect area community, honoring and serving its residents, spreading God’s love, and raising money for our work. You can read descriptions of some of our events below, and click on the links for more details. If you would like to volunteer with any of our events, just let us know.

Journey of Awesomeness – A 204-mile charity bike ride that takes place in June, benefiting Abundant Life.

Christmas Banquet – A semiformal dinner featuring performances and a silent auction that brings together the UVA and Charlottesville communities, celebrates the children in our tutoring programs, and raises money for Christmas Store.

Christmas Store – Children in our tutoring programs spend the Blue Bucks they have earned through attendance and good behavior on gifts for their family members and themselves. Toys and other new items are donated by members of the community for this heart-warming day, and volunteers serve as shopping assistants and gift wrappers.

MLK Day Community Celebration – A day of service and remembrance honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision of the beloved community. Events include service projects and crafts for children, discussions for teens and adults, a candlelight march for unity, an evening ceremony with a speaker, music, and community awards, and a multicultural potluck dinner.

Father Daughter Dance – A special evening for girls in Abundant Life programs to celebrate their relationships with fathers and father figures in their lives.
