FOR 1ST -4TH GRADERS
- Tutoring is for 1st-4th graders, from 3:20 - 5:00 PM, Mon. - Thurs. The program
is held at Johnson School. The children have 1:1 tutoring in reading and math, computer lab, and enrichment time.
Kids are invited to optional Bible Club on Fridays.
- Bible Club meets Friday afternoons from 3:20 to 5:00 PM and is mostly
led by volunteers from UVA. 1st - 4th graders are invited for snack, singing, crafts, and a Bible story with
small group leaders.
- The Summer Program is a six-weeks-long morning academic program for
elementary school children who participate in 1:1 reading support and other enrichment oppportunities.
- Summer Camp is a weeklong day camp held every summer for elementary school children. High School
students from Trinity Presbyterian and from the community serve as counselors; they live together in
the neighborhood for the week, sharing in meals, discussion, and service.
- The Christmas Banquet is an annual fundraiser with hundreds in attendance, put on by students at
UVA. The banquet honors our elementary school children at a formal dinner.
- Christmas Store is the culmination of the fall semester of tutoring. Kids spend "Blue Bucks"
earned from good behavior on presents for family, friends, and themselves.
FOR 5TH and 6TH GRADERS
- The Intelligent Girls Club meets Wednesday evenings from 5:30
- 7:00 PM, and includes dinner, large- and small-group discussions on Biblical principles/life
skills, crafts, and field trips.
- Walker Tutoring is for 5th-6th graders at Walker Upper
Elem. from 2:30-3:30 PM, Tues. and Thurs. Tutors provide one-to-one academic help.
This program uses incentives and offers field trips.
FOR 7TH and 8TH GRADERS
- The 5/8 Club is for 5th-10th gr. guys and meets Monday evenings,
6:00 - 8:45 PM, for large group games, skits, dinner, speakers, Bible study and service.
- Basketball Teams for 5th-8th grade boys are coached by
volunteers; practices are at area gyms.
- Ladies of Quality Jr. Wednesday nights, 7:30 - 9 PM, meets for
large group dinner and small group Bible study w/girls in 7-8th grades. Retreats and small-group
outings also take place.
- Buford Academic Meetings (BAM), Mon. and Wed., 2:30-3:30 pm at
Buford Middle School, homework help and test prep for 7th-8th graders.
FOR 9TH - 12TH GRADERS
- Ladies of Quality Sr. is for girls in grades 9-12 and meets
Weds. nights, 7:15 - 9 PM for dinner, Bible study, crafts, and small group discussion. Regular
retreats and fieldtrips are also offered.
- Tutoring at Charlottesville High School for teen girls is
Thursdays (11:30-12:00 or 12:24-12:54 PM).
- Elevate is for high school guys in gr. 11-12 and
meets Tues. evenings. Meetings include dinner, discussion, & recreation. Spiritual
matters, community service, leadership development, & vocational enrichment are the focus. Annual
CCDA Youth Conference trip in August..
- Teens at Work is a summer employment program enabling young
teens to work at area businesses and non-profits. We provide job experience, vocational training,
and incentives.
FOR ADULTS
- Community Leadership Catalyst is an effort to stimulate
home-grown leadership which includes (but is
not limited to) participation in the community Resident Council, coaching basketball teams,
attendance at parent meetings, and other neighborhood initiatives.
- The IDA Program offers 20 adults the opportunity to study
money management together while learning to save monthly. Year-long support prepares adults to
obtain an asset such as a first-time home, business, or education. A State of Virginia grant
matches the adults' savings if used for asset purchases. Bible Studies, prayer meetings, monthly
worship services. Occasional Intro to Computers classes.
- Occasional community days cookouts and block parties, often
in partnership with Blue Ridge Commons management (CHP) Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
