Activities include bible study, community service, social justice, personal enrichment, academic enrichment, and field trips. Contact Jessie for more info.
The 5/8 Club Summer Program for rising 5th-8th grade boys meets four days per week for five weeks in June and July. Monday through Wednesday activities include breakfast, bible study, reading, community service, sports, math, lunch, and free time, while Thursdays are for field trips to a lake, pool, or trail. The boys also partake in a week-long basketball camp at John Paul Jones Arena courtesy of Athletes in Action. Former 5/8 Club members in high school and college co-lead the program. Contact Dylan for more info.
Each summer, 6th-8th grade boys in the 5/8 Club raise funds so they can spend a life-changing week at Camp Wabanna, a Christian outdoor adventure camp on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Contact Dylan for more info.
Bible Camp is a week-long day camp held every summer for elementary school children. Our AmeriCorps State workers run small classes of morning academics. In the afternoons, high school students from local churches and from our community serve together as camp counselors. They lead the children during recreation, lunch, swimming time, and crafts as well as Bible time with skits, singing, and stories (parents who prefer for their children not to participate in Bible time may request extra craft/game sessions instead). The camp counselors serve together in the neighborhood for the week, sharing in meals and discussions during the evenings after camp. Contact Rebecca for more info.
The Summer Program is a six-week-long morning academic program for elementary school children who participate in 1:1 reading support and other enrichment opportunities. The program runs when we have adequate funding partners to make it possible.
Teens at Work is a summer employment program enabling young teens to work at area businesses and non-profits. We provide job experience, vocational training, and incentives. This program runs when we have adequate funding partners to make it possible.
